On the road again . . . . . .

Hi,

I’ll be spending plenty of quality time bonding with my beloved car over the next three weeks. In addition to visiting my customers on the east and west coasts, I’ll be taking part in wine fairs too. Always great fun !

The next wine fair is with Der O Sullivan in Tralee this coming Friday, the 2nd December. It starts at 7 (ish) and ends at some stage later in the night. Who knows when :) Its always a fantastic event and the who’s who of Tralee and greater Kerry will be there to sample the wines on the night. Der and his team always put on a wonderful show and the delicious home cooked dishes will compliment the lovely wine selection on show from a select few of his wine suppliers.

I have been asked to show the following wines

Kangarilla Road Shiraz 2009

Little Beauty Sauvignon Blanc 2009

Little Beauty Riesling 2009

Little Beauty Pinot Noir 2009

Its always a very lively event with a great crowd so that should be great fun

Hope to see you on my travels

Corona de Aragon Gran Reserva 2004

Grape Variety : Tempranillo / Cabernet Sauvignon / Garnacha / Carinena

Style : Intense, Fruity Red

ABV : 13 %

The Winemakers

The Winery and its vineyards are geographically located in the heart of the Cariñena Denomination of Origin, one of Spain’s most traditional wine-producing regions. The vineyards are located in the 14 towns of the Region, at the bottom of the Algairén and Pecos mountain ranges, between the Huerva and Jalón rivers, at heights of between 320 and 850 metres above sea level.

Our wines are produced based on three fundamental aspects that form the essence of each one of them: the land, the climate and the variety. 100% of Garnacha and Cariñena vines are handpicked. The average age of our Garnacha and Cariñena vines are 40 years old.

The Wine

The main varieties are Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, which give it a modern and international character, without losing its local character, reinforced by the intense supply of fruit and freshness from the Garnacha and Cariñena varieties, this latter one having a slightly higher presence to give more acidity, to keep the wine more alive for longer. All this power of the varieties is intensified even more by leaving it in oak barrels (60% French and 40% American) for 24 months, where the wine acquires greater intensity and expression in its notes and flavours. With this process we have obtained a wine with very mature fruit aromas with tobacco, cocoa, spicy, toasted and mineral notes. It is balanced, velvety smooth, elegant and long lasting on the palate.

Kangarilla Road Cabernet Sauvignon 2008 McLaren Vale, Australia

Country / Region : McLaren Vale, Australia

Year : 2008

Grape Variety : Cabernet Sauvignon

Style : Full, Fruity, Red

ABV : 14%

Drink By : 2020

Price : €16 to €18 RRP

The Winemakers

Kangarilla Road Vineyard & Winery is based in McLaren Vale South Australia. It was established by Helen and Kevin O’Brien in 1997. Kangarilla Road is the main road running past the vineyard towards the small village of Kangarilla, the name a derivation of the Australian Aboriginal language and refers to the abundance of resources locally.

Kevin O’Brien is an oenologist with 20 years experience in the wine industry. Helen O’Brien brings flair to Kangarilla Road and has extensive experience in the public relations, promotions and fashion industries.

Our philosophy is really quite simple – to produce wines that we enjoy drinking – wines that can be enjoyed with or without food and with friends.

The Wine

The 2007 Cabernet was sourced from five vineyards in the McLaren Vale district. The major percentage is from our McLaren Flat vineyard together with that of our immediate neighbour. These vineyards, located at the northern part of the foothills, ripen later than many of the other sub- regions resulting in “cooler climate” aromatic dark fruit driven wines with intense mid to back palate presence and an abundance of soft velvety tannins. The balance of the blend is sourced from vineyards in the Seaview, Willunga and Aldinga regions of McLaren Vale. These vineyards are located in sites where the influence of strong soils gives rise to intense aromas and flavours.

Aged in a combination of new French and American oak complemented with an even mix of 1, 2, 3 and 4 year old oak. Aromas of dark berries combine with hints of earthy richness. The palate is full of rich dark savoury fruit leaving trails of dark chocolate, cherries and sweet chalky tannins. Perfect with lamb, beef, pasta and cheeses

Our long, dry growing season can often become an “Indian Summer” allowing us to create Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay rich in fruity aromas and flavours and balanced nicely in the reds with soft approachable tannins.

Kevin O’Brien is an oenologist with 20 years experience in the wine industry. Our philosophy is really quite simple – to produce wines that we enjoy drinking – wines that can be enjoyed with or without food and with friends.

The Wine

The Shiraz vineyards of the Southern Fleurieu and Currency Creek contribute colour, blackberry and spice. The McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek Shiraz give depth and texture together with the complex spice, dark plums and cherry always associated with these regions. Cabernet Sauvignon from Langhorne Creek at 25% gives further structure to this classic Australian blend Together the four regions provide depth, complexity and mid palate power.

Vibrant Crimson with purple hue. Rich dark berry fruits with hints of plum and dark cherry. Lifted berries and spicy plums with dark cherries. A lingering finish reflecting dark berry fruits and long fine tannins. Maturation in French and American oak for 12 months. Perfect with BBQ food, Red Meats and Cheeses
