The Winemakers

Kangarilla Road Vineyard & Winery is based in McLaren Vale South Australia. It was established by Helen and Kevin O’Brien in 1997. Kangarilla Road is the main road running past the vineyard towards the small village of Kangarilla, the name a derivation of the Australian Aboriginal language and refers to the abundance of resources locally. Our long, dry growing season can often become an “Indian Summer” allowing us to create Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay rich in fruity aromas and flavours and balanced nicely in the reds with soft approachable tannins.

Kevin O’Brien is an oenologist with 20 years experience in the wine industry. Helen O’Brien brings flair to Kangarilla Road and has extensive experience in the public relations, promotions and fashion industries.

Our philosophy is really quite simple – to produce wines that we enjoy drinking – wines that can be enjoyed with or without food and with friends.

The Wine

The Devil’s Whiskers are the two little marks that appear around the top lips of some people when they drink red wine – even just one glass. Aromas of spicy black currant, dark prune and sweet earth with nuances of eucalyptus and sweet floral notes integrated with fine French oak. Flavours of savoury black currant and rhubarb, this wine shows great length and texture with fine fruit tannins complimented with carefully integrated oak.

The Wine

Our Viognier, grown on the Estate vineyard is a fresh, aromatic, citrus driven modern style complemented by a balanced use of oak with 30% of the wine fermented in new French oak Barriques. The wine matured for 3 months with occasional barrel stirring early. This oak component is unobtrusive yet critical to the overall aroma and flavour of the final wine.

Light straw with green hues. Floral notes of citrus flowers, Kaffir lime leaves and violets with lemon and lemon zest combining with citrus pastilles. A full luscious palate of great length with refreshing lively citrus juice and zesty flavours. Elegant style displaying tight acidity, great length of flavour, integrated texture from the light use of oak. Ideal with white meats, salads and cheeses
